Faith Meets the Sea - Somnath

Somnath is a Hindu Temple in Gujarat, which is famous for the black Shiva lingam, which is one of the 12 jyotirlingas. This intricately carved honey-colored Somnath temple is a famous pilgrimage site among Hindus and it is believed to be the place where the first of the twelve holy jyotirlingas emerged in India.

  • Somnath temple is constructed on the shore of the Arabian Sea and three rivers meet here - Kapila, Hiran, and Sarasvati.
  • Around 7:45, a light and sound show highlights the temple in Amitabh Bachchan’s voice, an Indian Actor.

This is one of the oldest pilgrimages and you can even find ancient texts like Skandpuran, Shreemad Bhagavat, Shivpuran, etc here. You can visit this temple at any time of the year but the best time would be in cooler months from October to February. Hindu festivals such as Shivratri and Diwali are celebrated with great enthusiasm here.
